Location, Dropping Off, Directions & Parking

These classes are held in our apartment in the Bearden area of West Knoxville. While we have plenty of room for students, depending on how many parents stay- it could get a bit crowded and noisy. Parents may drop-off or stay. Small kids are welcome to stay. We have a small playground on the apartment property and a lovely church playground across the street. GPS will take you to the apartment office. We are the very first building you see when you approach. I will have a bright pink sign to direct traffic to the easiest parking option. You will walk up stairs to the second story. Feel free to pass this parking lot, enter the second lot, and use the walk-way to by-pass stairs and walk directly onto the second story. Please email, text, or FaceBook Messenger for the address.

These classes are currently free of charge. I started it as a way to connect with others and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I may, in the future, charge a nominal fee just because these students can go through some paint and popcorn like crazy! See below for ways you can help.

Schedule & Calendar

Classes will meet in "sessions." Each session will consist of one painting that will be broken down into 2 to 4 class meetings where the student will complete a "chunk" of the work at each class meeting. These class meetings will be bi-weekly during the school year covering 2 to 4 separate paintings each semester. We will take breaks in between sessions as holidays allow. This is a very low-commitment activity. You are only committing to one session (painting) at a time. Feel free to take breaks when needed. Classes are an hour and a half. The first hour is for painting and the half-hour is for social time. I will also use the survey above and experiment with different days and times throughout the week. So, if you can't make this session, check the schedule regularly for the next session.

Please find the session you want below and use the registration form under that link. There is a limit to 12 students per session. Don't worry, if there is enough interest, I will open another session.

Who is this for? (ages)

The paintings we are using are considered beginner, but the classes are originally designed for adults. I have previewed several beginner videos and I think it safe to say they are appropriate for 12 years old and up. (See page regarding 10 & 11 year olds) If there is enough interest, I will age-segregate to make students more comfortable. Also depending on interest and the painting, I may group by gender. Check the session for details.

Materials I provide

  • all needed paint
  • basic brushes that we will share
  • all disposable goods
  • light refreshments

Materials the student needs

  • clothes you don't mind getting paint on (although it washes out pretty well)
  • 8x10 or 9x12 canvas purchasing details
  • their own brushes if they do not wish to share with others purchasing details

Ways you can help

  • Donate plastic and paper goods (paper towels, hand wipes ("baby" is fine), plastic cups, styrofoam plates)
  • Donate lemonade, microwave popcorn, "big bags" of snacks (such as pretzels, cheese puffs…)
  • Submit a review via the Participant Survey after you complete a session. As a homeschool parent, I am more leery of activities in homes. Let other homeschoolers know this is a safe, creative space for students!
  • Tell your friends. The more interest there is, the more sessions I can offer!
  • Submit feedback via the Participant Survey so I can make changes as needed.
  • I am currently looking for a small folding table and folding chairs at garage sale prices

  1. In an attempt to be a good steward of resources, you will see you students reusing plastic cups, styrofoam plates, and newspaper. It doesn't affect the finished project and adds to the artistic environment.
  2. I will provide light snacks for the students- usually water, lemonade, popcorn, and pretzels. I will never provide any peanut snacks, but we are NOT a peanut-free home.
  3. Due to the nature of this activity, I will from time to time take photographs and put them on facebook. I will do my best to not get faces in the photos. If I do accidentally get faces, I will obscure them.
  4. I do use the more cost-effective, "craft" paint and advise purchasing the "academy" canvases instead of studio. Simply to keep costs down.
  5. Please note, most of the video links in the sessions are to youtube. Please provide appropriate adult supervision regarding ads. I will always preview videos to make sure they are appropriate.
